Isla Mujeres

As we crossed our first stop off the list and move onto something (slightly) different… we quickly realised Isla Mujeres is most certainly paradise compared to Cancun. Once off the ferry from Cancun Port, we graced this little island in torrential rain, which may have dampened the cobbled streets but certainly not our spirits. Backpacks mounted, maps out and cameras ready, we made our way slowly through ‘downtown’ Mujeres, quite the contrast to a town’s hustle and bustle, forming a grid like cluster of pastel coloured houses and makeshift balconies. We had in fact walked the entire length of the Island in just ten minutes. Golf buggies zoomed and motorcycles beeped as we continued to be in a state of awe, as each laneway provided us with more eye candy (and skulls) to keep us wandering.

The lanes were lined with what I expected to be traditional Mexican homes…
