A Traveller’s Heart: finding peace in letting go

There’s another side to travelling: Letting Go.

I learned that travelling is not just about welcoming New and Different.  It’s also about getting really good at Leaving, and Saying Goodbye. Especially with people.

We meet new people: The willingness to try. The unexpected hook-ups. The 24 hour friendships. The 4 hour friendships.

They’re sharp, savvy, intense … but they always have to end. And we know that, as travellers, inside ourselves we all know that it has to end …. it’s like an unspoken expiry-date which makes our time together somehow even more special.

I’ve found that the most effective travel Goodbyes are without regrets. Without hope for future plans.  Without despair or neediness. But that doesn’t mean it has to be callous. We’re still human beings, with lots and lots of genuine feelings.
